5 a.m. HST Thursday (Aug 27) Hawaii County Civil Defense message on Hurricane Ignacio
As of 11 p.m. HST Thursday (Aug 27) the center of Hurricane Ignacio was located about 890 miles (1,430 km) east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. Maximum sustained winds are about 90 mph (150 km/hr) with higher gusts moving west at 12 mph (19 km/hr). Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center.
Ignacio is forecast to slowly strengthen through late Saturday (Aug 29). Behind Ignacio is Hurricane Jimena in the Eastern Pacific which has been strengthening.
Currently there are no watches or warnings for Hawaii due to these systems.
