As of 11 p.m. HST Wednesday (Aug 26) the center of Hurricane Ignacio was located about 1,205 miles (1,940 km) east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. Maximum sustained winds are about 85 mph (140 km/hr) with higher gusts moving west at 13 mph (20 km/hr). Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center.
Ignacio is forecast to continue strengthening. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center will track Ignacio once it enters the Central Pacific at 140ºW as shown on the maps. Behind Ignacio is Tropical Storm Jimena in the Eastern Pacific. Jimena is forecast to develop into a powerful hurricane in the next few days.
