7:15 a.m. Sunday (Aug 23) Hawaii County Civil Defense message on Tropical Depression Kilo

As of 5 p.m. Sunday (Aug 23) Tropical Depression Kilo was located about 715 miles (1,150 km) southwest of Honolulu. Kilo has maximum sustained winds of about 35 mph (55 km/hr) with higher gusts.

Kilo is moving west-northwest at 8 mph (13 km/hr). Kilo remains a disorganized weather system and is forecast to slowly strengthen back to a tropical storm Monday (Aug 24). Johnston Island is currently under a tropical storm watch.

Currently no watches or warnings are in effect for Hawaii Island and the Civil Defense Agency will be monitoring the system and maintaining close communications with the National Weather Service. Please monitor your local radio broadcasts and this website for updates.
