6:15 a.m. Friday (Aug 21) Hawaii County Civil Defense Tropical Storm Kilo update

As of 11 p.m. Friday (Aug 21) Kilo is a tropical depression and was located about 450 miles (725 km) south-southwest of Hilo. Kilo has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph (55 km/hr) with higher gusts.

Kilo is moving west-northwest at 16 mph (26 km/hr). Kilo is forecast to gradually strengthen over the next few days and possibly become a tropical storm again Saturday night. The latest forecast does not expect Kilo to become a hurricane in the next five days.

Currently no watches or warnings are in effect and the Civil Defense Agency will be monitoring the system and maintaining close communications with the National Weather Service. Please monitor your local radio broadcasts and this website for updates.
