Fire damages Puna home Thursday morning (Aug 20)

Firefighters responded to a 6:16 a.m. alarm Thursday (Aug 20) to 16-2143 Azure Drive in Puna for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find smoke billowing out of the rafters of a vacant home with fire in a carport laundry room. East Fern Forest volunteer firefighters were able to put out the fire which was declared out at 6:58 a.m.

Fire dispatch reports the cause of the fire is undetermined, police had evicted squatters from the home a month ago and there was no power at the time of the fire.

The loss at the single story, 1,252 square foot residence was determined to be $80,000 in damage with $100,000 saved by firefighters.

There were no injuries reported in the blaze.
