MEDIA RELEASE

The world’s most competitive anglers gathered in Kona for Day Four of the 56th Annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament and succeeded in tagging and releasing another 16 Pacific blue marlin and one spearfish.

Claire Duke, Gold Coast Game Fish Club angler, fishing aboard Vixen, caught and boated the largest ahi (yellowfin tuna) of the week so far, tipping the scales at an impressive 191 pounds.

With one more day of tournament fishing remaining, all but one of 31 teams have posted points on the scoreboard.

Team Likeke Club, on a bucket list quest, held their 207 point lead over Australia’s Sunshine Coast Game Fishing Club.

“The fish have been hungry all week and who knows what tomorrow will bring? The teams are very aware of how close the standings are and what it will take to win the tournament,” HIBT founder Peter Fithian said. “HIBT anglers and the highly skilled captains of Kona’s fishing fleet will tackle tomorrow’s final day of fishing with everything they’ve got.”

HIBT fishing wraps at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
