Police DUI stats for the week of August 3-9, 2015

During the week of August 3, 2015, through August 9, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 29 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Twelve of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21. So far this year, there have been 628 DUI arrests compared with 724 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 916 major accidents so far this year compared with 962 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.8 percent. So far this year, there have been 14 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with eight during the same period last year, an increase of 75 percent. To date, eight fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3). DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
