HONOLULU — Based on the Hurricane Guillermo coordination call today between Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), National Weather Service, and federal, state, and local emergency management defense partners, HI-EMA offers the following preparedness advice to residents and visitors:

• Continue your emergency preparedness activities. Download our preparedness brochure at http://www.scd.hawaii.gov/documents/SCD_PrepareBrochure.pdf for detailed recommendations and other resources.
• Follow the Department of Education online at http://www.hawaiipublicschools.org for the latest information on possible school closures. Make sure you know the closure notification procedure if your children attend a private or charter school.
• High winds may affect your travel plans. Check with your airline prior to any planned flights next week.
• Check with local officals and the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) if you plan to hike or camp next week. Parks and other trails may be closed depending on the weather forecast. Visit the DLNR website at http://dlnr.hawaii.gov/blog/category/news/ for the latest closure information.
