Police remind public about the start of school and related traffic

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaiʻi Island police are reminding motorists that Wednesday (July 29) is the first day of school for some public schools and that on Thursday (July 30), all public schools will be in session.

Motorists should expect an increase in traffic, especially in school zones, during morning and afternoon hours.

Sergeant Robert Pauole of the Traffic Services Section suggests adjusting your daily schedule and starting your day earlier to avoid the temptation to rush while commuting to work. Also, while driving within school zones, use caution and be attentive to children walking to school and crossing in marked crosswalks.

Additionally, police remind motorists that one-way traffic patterns will be in effect in Hilo on Waiānuenue Avenue and on Kapiʻolani Street between Waiānuenue Avenue and Haili Street.
