During the week of July 20, 2015, through July 26, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 27 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eleven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 576 DUI arrests compared with 680 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 858 major accidents so far this year compared with 901 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.8 percent.
So far this year, there have been 13 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with eight during the same period last year, an increase of 62.5 percent. (A fatality on July 18 was reclassified to a medical condition).
To date, eight fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
