The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for east facing shores of all islands until 6 a.m. Sunday (July 12).

Surf generated from Tropical storm Ela is forecast to be six to eight feet along east facing shores.

Coastal areas can expect strong breaking waves, shore breaks and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed the advice given by ocean safety officials and be careful. Know your limits and when in doubt, don’t go out.

Boaters should expect recreational surfers and bodyboarders using harbor channels to access surfing areas.

There is also a special weather statement regarding hot temperatures with high humidity and light winds for the islands over the weekend. The heat index will be near 100ºF (38ºC), this means it could feel like 100ºF (38ºC). Residents are urged the stay hydrated during these hot conditions.
