The National Weather Service in Honolulu is watching over Tropical Depression Four-e which is about 1,025 miles east-southeast of the Big Island.
The system currently has sustained winds of 35 mph with higher gusts and is expected to strengthen becoming a tropical storm tonight or tomorrow (July 8).
Hurricane season in Hawaii runs from June through November.
