The Hawaii Fire Department reports that the runaway brush fire in the area south of the Kona Palisades and Kona Acres subdivision off of Kaiminani Drive is 95% contained at this time.

Fire department units and personnel continue to work on extinguishing the fire and are also mopping up hot spots and flare ups in the area. No homes or properties are threatened at this time and no evacuations are needed. Residents are advised that smoke conditions may change with changes in fire conditions and wind direction and to take necessary precautions and remain indoors.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to use alternate routes if possible and to be aware of fire vehicles and personnel in the area.

    how many acres were affected by the fires ? we have been breathing in smoke for over 24 hours …. those doing aerial fireworks during the fire and over my house , are sick humans with no respect for their neighbors … and why oh why are cops NOT stopping citizens from blasting aerial fireworks in our subdivisions ….it is illegal folks but who cares
