Police investigate theft of fuel tanker from Honomu

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating the theft of a fuel tanker from Honomū last month.

The custom made 500 gallon diesel fuel tanker was on a double-axle trailer on Old Māmalahoa Highway near the Honomū transfer station and had a red Honda fuel pump. It was rusted silver with a pump and nozzle toward the back and had diamond-shaped placards with “1993” on the front and side.

Police ask anyone with any information about the theft or the location of the tanker to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe. Crime Stoppers doesn’t record calls or subscribe to caller ID.
