Police DUI stats for the week of April 27-May 3, 2015

During the week of April 27, 2015, through May 3, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 22 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 328 DUI arrests compared with 439 during the same period last year, a decrease of 25.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 482 major accidents so far this year compared with 571 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.6 percent.

So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with five during the same period last year, an increase of 40 percent.

To date, four fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
