Police DUI stats for the week of April 20-26, 2015

During the week of April 20, 2015, through April 26, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 306 DUI arrests compared with 418 during the same period last year, a decrease of 26.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 452 major accidents so far this year compared with 543 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.8 percent.

So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with four during the same period last year, an increase of 75 percent.

To date, four fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
