“We are fortunate to have found in Kirstin a strong leader with local roots and a background in education,” said KKCC board chair Tracey Fosso. “The board has enjoyed getting to know Kirstin and discussing her ideas for improving our community and business environment.”

Kahaloa grew up in Kapolei, Oahu and graduated from Kamehameha Schools. She has degrees in public service administration, international studies and political science from the University of Evansville and a master of arts in management and leadership with an emphasis in human resource development from Webster University.

“Although I cannot say I was raised on the Big Island, I would not be who I am without my Hawaii Island family ties,” Kahaloa said. “Both my parents were born and raised here…The Big Isle really means family and heritage to me, since this is where generations of my family are from.”

In her new post, Kahaloa will be overseeing the 510-member KKCC, working with its board, committees, staff and volunteers. She will be responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives, monitoring organizational performance, growing membership, managing the budget and collaborating with other organizations and government entities.

“The journey to return home has take almost 14 years, but I am ready,” Kahaloa said. “This position is a start to achieving my dreams. I want to make a difference and have a positive impact on the economic growth and development of West Hawaii and the greater state.”

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce provides leadership and advocacy for a successful business environment in West Hawaii.

The result of KKCC’s work is a community of choice as reflected in our quality of life, business and individual opportunity and manifest respect for our culture and our natural.
