MEDIA RELEASE
The county Department of Parks and Recreation will stop operating the Pahoa Lava Viewing Area at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31.
Located at the Pahoa Transfer Station, the free viewing area is being shut down so the facility can be converted back to its original use as a public trash collection site.
It also will be closed Jan. 27 and Jan. 29, so schoolchildren displaced by recent lava activity may take field trips to the viewing area and see the stalled front.
