Hilo author releases mystery-filled new children’s books

Author Harry Char announces the nationwide release of his new children’s books, “The Case of the Broken Pipe” and “The Case of the Missing Bicycle: Second Edition.”

In “The Case of the Broken Pipe,” a father’s favorite pipe is mysteriously broken, and his initial suspect is Penelope, his own daughter. She seeks the help of her best friend, Dana, whose keen powers of observation and reasoning point to somebody else.

In “The Case of the Missing Bicycle: Second Edition,” Lewis, the fastest boy in second grade, is glued to his video game on a rainy Hawaiian morning when his concentration is interrupted by his friend Marvin’s urgent appeal to help him recover his missing bicycle. Find out how a 7-year-old boy helps a friend in need.

Char, who was born and raised in Honolulu, graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and went on to receive his master’s degree in education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

He taught school in Nevis, Minnesota; Kaiserslautern, Germany; and Hilo, Hawaii. He retired from education as an elementary school principal in Hilo.

He has since written short stories to encourage his children and grandchildren to read, to build confidence and self-esteem.
