Mountain View man arrested after driving into three cars with stolen truck

A Puna man is in police custody after running into three cars in a stolen truck in a parking lot in Hilo.

At 12:10 p.m. Wednesday (January 7) a police officer observed a stolen Toyota pickup truck in the parking lot of a home improvement store on Makaʻala Street. The suspect jumped into the stolen truck and, while fleeing from officers, the truck struck two parked vehicles, struck the officer’s car and nearly struck two pedestrians. The officer recognized the suspect as 27-year-old Jerald Cline of Mountain View.

At 1:05 p.m. Thursday, Cline was arrested at a home in Mountain View, where police located additional stolen vehicles. He was taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

At 4 p.m. Friday, Cline was charged with three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, three counts of criminal property damage, three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and one count each of resisting an order to stop, resisting arrest and ownership prohibited for possessing ammunition. His bail was set at $99,000.

He remains at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (January 12).
