U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) applauded President Obama’s announcement on his intention to nominate former Bank of Hawaii Chief Executive Officer Allan R. Landon to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

“The Federal Reserve is responsible for regulating nearly every aspect of our banking industry and it is critical that its members reflect the diversity in the industry,” Schatz said. “I am thrilled that President Obama has nominated former Bank of Hawaii Chief Executive Officer Allan Landon to serve on the Federal Reserve Board. Drawing on his experience at Bank of Hawaii, Mr. Landon will bring an essential community banking perspective to the Board. This perspective will be very important for states like Hawai‘i that depend on a vibrant sector of community banks to serve their banking needs.”

Landon served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Hawaii from 2004 to 2010. During his tenure, Landon led the bank out of a financial crisis.

Landon also served on the University of Hawaii Board of Regents from 2005 through 2009 and was board chair from 2007 to 2009.

After retiring in 2010, he served as a lecturer at the UH Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law.
