HELCO power restoration update for 10 a.m. Wednesday (Jan 7)

MEDIA RELEASE

HILO, January 7, 2015 (10 a.m.) – Hawai‘i Electric Light completed repairs to most major damage caused by a storm system that passed over the islands last week. Crews worked through the night and restored service to about 110 customers in Kalōpā, Āhualoa, Pauuilo, and Wood Valley by early this morning.

About 10 customers remain without power, primarily on Cane Haul Road (Honoka‘a) and in a remote area of Waipi‘o Valley. Today, crews expect to complete repairs and restore service to these customers. Customers who remain without power are asked to call 969-6666.

Hawai‘i Electric Light asks the community to be cautious of trees that could have been weakened by the storm. Storms can weaken trees and their branches but not break them. Winds can topple weakened trees after a storm has passed, and this could cause new power interruptions.
