Hawaiʻi Island police arrested a Hilo man in connection with a domestic violence incident that was reported Sunday morning (December 28).

In response to a 9:17 a.m. call, South Hilo Patrol officers learned that a 17-year-old boy was involved in an argument with a household member, 52-year-old Michael Alan Hoke, at their Hilo home. As the argument escalated, Hoke reportedly struck the teenager with a sharp object, causing a laceration to his upper body.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center with substantial injuries and was treated and released.

Hoke was arrested at the scene and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Division continued the investigation. Detectives charged him later Sunday with second-degree assault. His bail was set at $2,000. He remained at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (December 29).
