Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a possible drowning over the weekend in the South Kohala District.
At 9:35 a.m. Sunday (December 28), South Kohala officers responded to report of a male swimmer in distress at Wailea Beach in PuakÅ. A kayaker had found the swimmer motionless in the water and had taken him to shore.
Efforts to revive him with cardio-pulmonary resuscitation were unsuccessful. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as 53-year-old David Green Thompson of Seattle.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday (December 30th) to determine the exact cause of death.
