Abbott Galaher SeaMan Race start time change (Dec. 13)

MEDIA RELEASE

Due to a conflicting event, the start time for the Abbott Galaher SeaMan Race for OC1, OC2 and Standup Paddleboards on Saturday, Dec. 13, will be 8:30 a.m.

Registration will open at 7:15 a.m. at the Keauhou Canoe Club halau, and the pre-race meeting will take place on the beach at 8:15 a.m.

Introduced in 1998 by the late Abbott Galaher, this is the 16th year the SeaMan race has been sponsored by Keauhou Canoe Club as a food and fundraiser for the Hawaii Island Food Basket (formerly the Food Bank).

Entry fees will be reduced for this event to $20 per paddler ($15 for HIPA members), and all entries should include a donation of food (6 pack of canned goods or a frozen turkey) or add $10 donation to the Food Basket.

Following tradition, the course will run straight out to sea and back, with the Paddleboards and Novice, Recreational, 60+ age group and Junior paddlers under 19 paddling the 3 mile short course.

The 5-mile course will include paddlers in the various age group categories, for both OC1 and OC2.

For further information, call Jane Bockus at 937-7890 or Bill Armer at 896-4535.
