Police DUI stats for the week of December 1-7, 2014

During the week of December 1, 2014, through December 7, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,082 DUI arrests compared with 1,233 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,432 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,255 during the same period last year, an increase of 14.1 percent.

So far this year, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 25 during the same period last year, a decrease of 56 percent.

To date, six fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
