Police DUI stats for the week of November 24-December1, 2014

During the week of November 24, 2014, through December 1, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 1,065 DUI arrests compared with 1,210 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,411 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,231 during the same period last year, an increase of 14.6 percent.

So far this year, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 25 during the same period last year, a decrease of 56 percent.

To date, six fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
