Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii responds to Puna hurricane recovery

MEDIA RELEASE

Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii will be responding across multiple neighborhoods to repair homes damaged by Hurricane Iselle.

The large and powerful storm affected hundreds of people in the Puna region, and staff from Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii has been working with local organizations to assess the scope of the damage and to determine the best collaborative approach to assisting families.

“Not only were the effects of the storm devastating,” said Patrick Hurney, executive director, “but the unpredictability of the lava flow has delayed our work considerably. Now we are looking forward to helping the Puna community rebuild and move forward.”

Recovery efforts will include:

• Tree removal

• Roof repairs

• Repairs to homes with other structural damage
