Planned Parenthood temporarily closing Kona center

Planned Parenthood of Hawaii will no longer be offering health care services at its Kona Health Center after Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 due to the expiration of its current lease at the Hualalai Road location.

Planned Parenthood of Hawaii will focus on growing its Hawaii Island education and outreach programs and strengthening partnerships with community organizations while searching for a new location for its health center.

For more than 20 years, Planned Parenthood of Hawaii has provided thousands of women, men and teens with affordable, quality, confidential sexual and reproductive health care at the Kona Health Center. Planned Parenthood of Hawaii will continue to provide health education and outreach on Hawaii Island and referrals to Hawaii Island health care providers.

“Planned Parenthood of Hawaii’s Kona Health Center has long been Hawaii Island’s trusted provider for those seeking affordable, confidential, quality sexual and reproductive health care and we are grateful for the community’s continued support,” said Andrea Anderson, Planned Parenthood of Hawaii President and CEO. “We are currently working with community partners to ensure that patients’ health care needs are met and we will continue to be in the community providing Hawaii Island families and youth with the education they need to keep themselves healthy and safe.”

Requests for Hawaii Island health care provider referrals and inquiries regarding patient health records and/or contraceptive supplies should be directed to Planned Parenthood of Hawaii’s Honolulu Health Center at (808) 589-1149.

Health education and/or outreach questions should be directed to Planned Parenthood of Hawaii’s Education Program at (808) 589-1156, ext. 243.
