Vision for Waimea District Park to be presented (Oct. 15)

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaii County’s vision for a new Waimea District Park will be presented to the community during a public informational meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Waimea.

The meeting will be held at the Mana Christian Ohana center across from the Kahilu Town Theatre located at 67-1182 Lindsey Road and behind the Parker Ranch Shopping Center.

Department of Parks and Recreation representatives will update the project’s status and timeline, provide renderings of what the initial phase of park development will look like, and answer questions.

Located behind the former Parker Ranch headquarters building and reached via Ala Ohia Road, the 28-acre site is slated to become a master-planned facility offering diverse indoor and outdoor recreational activities.

Plans call for constructing multiple athletic fields and a comfort station; a covered play court with storage, concession area and restrooms; a multi-use building for community functions; and children’s playground equipment.

Parking and landscaping also will be provided.
