MEDIA RELEASE

Two people have been charged with theft and burglary in connection with a break-in last week in Kapaʻau.

The burglary at a home on Lehuʻula Circle was reported October 5. Numerous items valued at $3,000 were stolen, including electronics, purses and wallets.

Friday afternoon (October 10), North Kohala police officers arrested 23-year-old Roberta Uilani Ramos of Hāwī on a $20,000 bench warrant for violating probation in an unrelated theft and burglary case. She was taken to the Kona police cellblock.

Investigation implicated Ramos and her boyfriend, Kelvin Keoni Kaneshiro, in the October 5 burglary. North Kohala police officers arrested him Friday evening and took him to the Kona cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

On Saturday, detectives charged Ramos and Kaneshiro with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft. Ramos was also charged with contempt of court. Her bail was set at $27,000. Kaneshiro’s was set at $7,000.

Both remained at the cellblock until their initial court appearance on Monday (October 13).
