Fifteen University of Hawaii faculty members have been selected as recipients of the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching, and three were selected as recipients of the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research.
University of Hawaii President David Lassner said, “University of Hawaii teachers and researchers are world-class, in subjects ranging from automotive technology and justice administration to marine biology and astronomy. We thank these outstanding teachers and researchers for their service and dedication. They truly make a difference in the lives of our students and in our community.â€
The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching which recognizes faculty who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity, and personal values beneficial to students was awarded to:
* Ryan Daniels, Assistant Professor, Administration of Justice, University of Hawaii Maui College
* Alice Davis, Associate Professor, Nursing, University of Hawaii at Hilo
* Kenoalani Dela Cruz, Associate Professor and Counselor, Student Affairs-Counseling and Support Services Center, Hawaii Community College
* Richard Jones, Assistant Professor, Education, Elementary Education, University of Hawaii at West Oahu
* Helmut Kae, Assistant Professor, Biology, Leeward Community College
* Paul Lavy, Assistant Professor, Department of Art and Art History, University of Hawaii at Manoa
* Hyoung-June Park, Associate Professor, School of Architecture, University of Hawaii at Manoa
* Michael Paulding, instructor, Business, Legal and Technology Education Program, Kapiolani Community College
* Kavita Rao, Associate Professor, College of Education’s Department of Special Education, University of Hawaii at Manoa
* Sandra Sanpei, Professor, Communication Arts, Honolulu Community College
* D. Kapuaala Sproat, Assistant Professor, William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii at Manoa
* Jody-Lynn Storm, Instructor, Mathematics, Windward Community College
* Gordon Talbo, Professor, Automotive Technology, Kauai Community College

* Annette Kuuipolani Wong, Assistant Professor, Hawaiinuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge, University of Hawaii at Manoa
The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research which recognizes a faculty member’s scholarly contributions that expand the boundaries of knowledge and enrich the lives of all in the community, nation and the world was awarded to:

* Andrew Howard, Assistant Astronomer, Institute for Astronomy, University of Hawaii at Manoa
