Hurricane Warning issued for the Big Island as Iselle remains strong

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Hurricane Warning for the Big Island and surrounding waters due to Hurricane Iselle remaining strong as it approaches the Big Island.

Hurricane Iselle is expected to be near or over the Big Island Thursday afternoon (Aug 7) and Thursday night and is forecast to bring tropical storm conditions across portions of the rest of the state Thursday night and Friday. Another round of tropical storm conditions is possible over the weekend as Hurricane Julio approaches the region.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from late tonight through late Friday night for all Hawaiian Islands. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Big Island, a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and Maui, a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Oahu.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Big Island Windward, Leeward and Southeast waters. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Maui County Windward, Leeward waters, Maalaea Bay, Pailolo and Alenuihaha Channels. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Oahu Windward and Leeward waters and the Kaiwi Channel.
