Potential flood alert issued for Hawaiian Islands due to approach of Iselle

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued an alert for the State of Hawaii for potential heavy rain and flash flooding Thursday and Friday due to Hurricane Iselle’s system forecast to move over the island chain.

Iselle is forecast to downgrade to a tropical storm when it reaches Hawaii but has the potential for heavy rains. This advisory may be replaced by a flash flood watch later.

During a flash flood watch campers and hikers should avoid low lying flood prone areas. People should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. The rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
