Police charge second of four persons wanted for credit card fraud


Hawaiʻi Island police have charged the second of four persons wanted for fraudulent use of a credit card.

At 10:15 a.m. Friday (August 1), Colvin Gaspar, 22, of Kailua-Kona was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, second-degree theft, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, driving without a license, driving without insurance, unauthorized entry of a dwelling, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $61,250. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (August 4).

Gaspar was arrested in Kailua-Kona at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday (July 30). He was one of four people who had been sought for using a credit card after it was stolen from a car on Kuakini Highway on July 23.

On July 25, Gaspar fled from police in a car that was later reported stolen. The car has since been recovered.

The day of his arrest, Gaspar entered a house without permission to hide from the police. After officers located him inside and arrested him, he was found to be in possession of crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Two other persons are still wanted in connection with the credit card fraud investigation:

Luke Kaniaupia, 21, of Kailua-Kona is described as 5-foot-6, 165 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Leilani Parent, 26, of Kailua-Kona is described as 5-foot-5, 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Police ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of either of these individuals to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
