During the week of June 30, 2014, through July 6, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 637 DUI arrests compared with 646 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 795 major accidents so far this year compared with 720 during the same period last year, an increase of 10.4 percent.
So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 18 during the same period last year, a decrease of 61.1 percent.
To date, five fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
