MEDIA RELEASE

Physicians, staff and patients celebrated the opening Tuesday of the Kaiser Permanente Kona Medical Office.

The state-of-the-art, 40,000-square-foot facility in north Kona offers a full-service pharmacy and vision center, the latest in diagnostic imaging with digital mammography and digital general radiology, convenient lab services, pediatrics, family medicine and 25 other specialties.

The three-building campus is situated on a nine-acre lot at 74-517 Honokohau Street. The two-story medical office includes 37 exam and procedure rooms for enhanced patient comfort, convenience and increased privacy.

To ensure easy member access, ample free parking with five electric vehicle charging stations is available, and a Hele-On bus stop fronts the facility entrance.

Other features include free member Wi-Fi and energy-efficient infrastructure.

“This new and long-awaited facility demonstrates our commitment to the growing community of West Hawaii,” said Dr. Geoffrey Sewell, president and executive medical director at Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. “We are excited and honored to finally have a medical office in Kona that matches up to the world-class care our providers have been offering to members on the Big Island for so many years.”

“The new Kona Medical Office is designed specifically with our patients’ needs in mind,” said Kaiser Permanente Hawaii Region president Mary Ann Barnes. “From the bright, open exam and procedure rooms to the intuitive design allowing easy navigation, every detail promotes a total health environment for our patients.”

Construction of the new facility was completed by the Maryl Group with additional design work by Next Design.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii is hosting a Family Fun Day noon-3 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at the Kona Medical Office.

The free event will feature music, family friendly games and activities, healthy snacks, a prize giveaway, as well as an opportunity to tour the facility and meet physicians and staff.
The Kona Medical Office completion is the latest in recent expansion efforts for Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. The state’s largest integrated health care organization opened a new Rehabilitation Specially Center on Maui in September of 2013 followed by
a new Pearlridge Clinic and Koolau Medical Office on Oahu in October.

Kaiser Permanente serves approximately 230,000 members and is the state’s top rated health plan based on quality and customer satisfaction, according the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA).

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has provided total health to the people of Hawaii for more than 50 years, with physicians who
are members of the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, the largest multi-specialty physician group practice in the state of Hawaii.

Kaiser Permanente is dedicated to care innovations, clinical research, health education, and the support of community health.

The new medical office is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday—Friday; 8 a.m.-noon Saturday.
