MEDIA RELEASE

A two-day Leader Training Workshop on Powerful Tools for Caregivers (PTC) will be held July 10-11 at the Waimea Civic Center.

The workshop is designed to educate professionals working with family caregivers and community volunteers who will then use the curriculum to conduct PTC classes in their local communities.

The workshop runs 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.

Tuition is free to CNAs, assisted living workers, social workers, community volunteers and others interested in assisting local caregivers. Participants must be Hawaii residents who will agree to co-lead two 6-week PTC series for lay family caregivers within a year after completion of the Leader Training workshop.

There is a one-time $100 certification fee payable to the national PTC office to validate course completion as a certified trainer.

The workshop will be conducted by Heather Greenwood, a faculty member at the University of Hawaii Manoa Cooperative Extension Office in Kahului; and Valorie Taylor, a social worker affiliated with Bayada Health in Hilo.

Registration is limited to 10 participants.
