The search for a 56-year-old fisherman who fell into the ocean Friday night (June 6) has come to and end without results.

Hawaii County Fire Department crews used a helicopter, rescue boat with divers and ground crews to search the shoreline and ocean fronting Malama Flats near MacKenzie State Park Tuesday (June 10). The U.S. Coast Guard used the cutter Kiska along with an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules aircraft as part of the search.

The Fire Department performed an aerial search up to 1/2 mile offshore along with dive operations and a ground search from Pohoiki to Kaimu Beach were unsuccessful in finding the lost fisherman. More than 959 square miles were searched by the Fire Department and Coast Guard.
