Some Kirkland Coarse Ground Pepper recalled due to possible salmonella risk

Olde Thompson Inc. Oxnard, CA is recalling to the consumer level Kirkland Signature Coarse Ground Malabar Pepper 12.7 OZ Plastic Jars with a Best Before date of 03/2017 and Lot #: OT 065099, OT 065169, OT 065254, OT 065255, OT 065256, and OT 065284, due to possible contamination by Salmonella. This recall is being undertaken with the knowledge of the FDA.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses.

The recalled product is identified and distributed as follows:

Sold exclusively at Costco Wholesale Club nationwide between April 4, 2014 and June 4, 2014

The recall affects 5,153 cases of recalling Kirkland Signature Coarse Ground Malabar Pepper 12.7 OZ Plastic Jars with a Best Before date of 03/2017 and Lot #: OT 065099, OT 065169, OT 065254, OT 065255, OT 065256, and OT 065284 located below the back label.

The bacterium was discovered during routine FDA sampling of consumer products.
