Opihi picker missing along Puna coastline since Thursday (May 29)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 5:18 a.m. alarm Saturday (May 31) to Cape Kumukahi for the report of a missing Opihi picker.

The missing picker was last seen between 1:30-2 p.m. on Thursday (May 29) in the area. Rescue crews used a helicopter, rescue boat and ground crews to search for the missing picker. Chopper One searched a mile North and three miles South of the last known location of the picker, a rescue boat performed dive operations 1.5 miles North and South of the last known location while ground crews searched the area. Crews did not find any signs or evidence of the picker.

The search was suspended due to darkness and will resume at daybreak Sunday (June 1).
