Police DUI stats for the week of May 12-18, 2014

During the week of May 12, 2014, through May 18, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 23 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 488 DUI arrests compared with 517 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 610 major accidents so far this year compared with 529 during the same period last year, an increase of 15.3 percent.

So far this year, there have been six traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 13 during the same period last year, a decrease of 53.8 percent.

To date, three fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
