MEDIA RELEASE

Gayot.com recently named Hale Ohia Cottages, located in Volcano Village, as a Top Ten Value Hotel in the United States.

Hale Ohia Cottages was the only Hawaii property listed in Gayot’s Top Ten Value Hotel list.

Built in 1931 by the Dillingham family as a summer estate, Hale Ohia Cottages features a main residence, eight guest cottages, a gardener’s cottage and numerous support structures on the 2-acre site.

The estate, also listed on the State Historical Register, is located one mile from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which hosts nearly 1.5 million visitors annually.

The free standing cottages feature all the amenities to make a visit to the volcano a treat in itself.

The property’s oldest cottage, Hale Lehua Cottage, features a lava rock fireplace and covered lanai.

The Hale Ohia Cottage comes with a sitting area, full kitchen, three bedrooms, and a covered lanai for outdoor gathering.

Hale Ohia Cottages is in good company on Gayot’s Top Ten Value Hotels in the U.S. list with the Meritage Resort & Spa, Napa; Andaz Wall Street, New York City; Hotel St. Augustine, Miami; Element, Las Vegas; Hotel Valley Ho, Scottsdale; Rosario Resort & Spa, Washington; Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Boston; and Hotel Lombardy, Washington D.C.

Hale Ohia Cottages is owned and operated by Michael Tuttle, a Kentucky native who has embraced Hawaii and this upcountry setting on the slope of Kilauea Volcano.

More than 20 years ago, when Tuttle drove up the driveway for the first time, the former Dillingham estate called out to him and he knew he was home.

Hale Ohia Cottages is a 2013 Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence winner.
