A delegation from Hawaii attended events in Washington, D.C. last earlier this month for American Bar Association Day 2014.

ABA Day is the association’s annual grassroots action week and brings together lawyers from across the country to lobby members of Congress on issues important to the legal profession and the administration of justice.

More than 350 attendees represented 49 states and the District of Columbia.

U.S. Sen. Mazie K. Hirono also met with Dang, Masunaga, and Ruthe Ashley from Vallejo, Calif. for ABA Day in D.C.

The American Bar Association leaders met with members of the 113th Congress to discuss issues involving Legal Services Corporation funding, and ABA opposition to a proposal to the federal tax code that would tax law firms on income long before it is received.

Margaret and Colette Masunaga also had lunch at the Senate Dining Room, where Hirono, an attorney and 2013 recipient of the ABA Margaret Brent Award, shared her love for art and recent photos of her ceramic wall vases and mosaic mirror frames.
