Fire burns woodshop in Fern Acres Monday morning (March 17)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 7:52 a.m. alarm Monday (March 17) to 11-3592 Hibiscus Street in Puna.

Crews arrived to find a single story garage type structure engulfed in flames. Crews contained the fire to the structure to prevent it spreading to a home. Firefighters used 8,000 gallons of water to extinguish the 22-by-20 foot wood working workshop on fire. The fire was reported to be under control at 8:26 a.m. and out at 8:45 a.m.

There were no injuries involved in the blaze. The loss is estimated to be $200,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
