The Kona Coffee and Tea Company’s opens Village Cafe

MEDIA RELEASE

Located in the heart of Kailua-Kona, The Kona Coffee and Tea Company has opened the doors of its second coffee shop in the Kona Coast Shopping Center.

The new shop, known as the Village Cafe, has taken over the same space that once housed Starbucks’ first location in Kona, continuing a long history of providing the community with coffee and a great place for leisure.

Some of the features of the new shop include:

* Custom built monkey pod and mango countertops and tables

* La Marzocco espresso machine

* In-house roaster

* Local, exclusive, fresh products

Village Cafe also will cater to the after-work crowds, offering beer and wine in the evening and extending the store hours until 9 p.m.

In the summer of 1997, 20 acres were set aside for the development of the Kona Coffee and Tea Company’s farm on Hualalai Mountain. Each year, another 20 acres would be added on to meet the demand of the coffee sales.

Today, the company yields 130 acres of coffee from two separate farms, producing more than 300,000 pounds every year. The company oversees the entire process — from the hand-picked coffee cherries, to the milling and roasting processes, and finally to the packaging and pouring of each cup.

In 2003, the Kona Coffee and Tea Company opened itsfirst retail store, providing a vintage atmosphere of what Kona coffee was, is, and will be.

The Kona Coffee and Tea Company won First Place in Gevalia’s cupping contest in 2003, and placed Honorable Mention in 2007.
