High wind warning for Big Island summits until Saturday morning

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high wind warning for the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea above 8,000 feet until 6 a.m. Saturday (March 1).

Winds are forecast to come from the West at 35-55 mph with higher gusts.

The strong winds can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Motorists should use caution while driving. The winds can also forcefully swing doors open or shut so use caution when opening or closing vehicle doors.
