Police DUI stats for the week of February 10-16, 2014

During the week of February 10, 2014, through February 16, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 168 DUI arrests compared with 146 during the same period last year, an increase of 15.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 194 major accidents so far this year compared with 176 during the same period last year, an increase of 10.2 percent.

So far this year, there have been three traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with eight during the same period last year, a decrease of 62.5 percent. (One fatality that occurred on February 5, 2014, was reclassified to a medical condition on February 7, 2014.)

To date, one fatality was related to drugs (0), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (1).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
