Police DUI stats for the week of February 3-9, 2014

During the week of February 3, 2014, through February 9, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 18 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 148 DUI arrests compared with 119 during the same period last year, an increase of 24.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 147 major accidents so far this year compared with 150 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2 percent.

So far this year, there have been three traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with eight during the same period last year, a decrease of 62.5 percent.

To date, one fatality was related to drugs (0), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (1).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
