Two girls teams are bringing home new state championships after a weekend of HHSAA action.

The Honokaa basketball team destroyed all competition in Division II to win its first state title. Seeded No. 1, Honokaa outlasted unseeded Kamehameha Schools – Hawaii in an all-Big Island final Saturday evening in Honolulu.

Final score was 54-35, with the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player Hunter Liftee contributing 24 points.

Also Saturday in Honolulu, HPA girls soccer team finally had revenge against Mid-Pac. The two teams have met in the championship game three years in row, with HPA finally getting to lift the trophy this year.

Not satisfied with the pair of second place finished, HPA, seeded No. 2 again this year, out-hustled No. 1 seed Mid-Pac to secure the Division II state title, 2-1.

A goal by Bri Vallente in the 72nd minute tied the score after a first half strike by Mid-Pac’s Janaye Shepherd.

In over-time, Nanea Tavares proved the day’s hero with her 86th minute tally, which was enough to earn HPA the title.

Kamehemahe Schools – Hawaii battled to a scoreless tie in the runner-up game, meaning they share third place honors with Pac-Five.

Meanwhile, in Division I, No. 4 seed Konawaena suffered a quartfinal defeat to Aiea, 20. Aiea eventually lost the state title to Kamehameha Schools – Kapalama, 4-0.
